Why We All Need Nutritional Supplements

Updated: Jan 23, 2024

When COVID hit approximately 3 years ago, I remember having to decipher mountains of information and misinformation about COVID.

Supplements

When looking at nutritional supplements, it’s much the same thing and perhaps more arduous. There are so many different types of supplements, and the aisle can be overwhelming, with all manufacturers claiming to assist us in reaching our health goals or caring for us in some way or another.

So what’s really necessary, and where do you begin? The answer is specific to the individual, so there is truly no one-size-fits-all solution. If we were all in perfect health, followed a perfect lifestyle, lived in an environmentally perfect world, and had perfect genes, we may not need supplements at all!

But the world is not perfect and neither is man (nor woman). We all need a little help now and then. I believe we would all benefit from supplementation in the following ways:

  • Vitamins and Minerals. There are 13 essential ones, but key vitamins and minerals boost the immune system, support normal growth and development, and help cells and organs do their jobs! Most important are Vitamins B, D, and E, and Magnesium and Zinc. The star here is Vitamin D, with Zinc a close second, in my view.

  • Antioxidants. These help our bodies fight against the onslaught of harmful, possibly disease-causing free radicals and toxins that we are exposed to every day. Free radicals are unstable molecules that wreak havoc on your body. Many areas of the body are vulnerable to free radical damage, but the immune system is especially sensitive. The powerhouse in this antioxidant category is Trans-Resveratrol. When combined with vitamin D and zinc, it can provide maximum defence in my view. This powerful combination is in Aspid RDZ.

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Major benefits for the cardiovascular system. One key benefit is that they help lower your triglyceride levels and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Heart disease is still our number one killer and defending against it should be a top priority.

Other considerations for selecting your nutritional supplement should be the quality of the ingredients, the number of ingredients and the reputation of the manufacturer.

The right supplement at the right dose with the highest level of quality is paramount. Having been directly involved in this industry for over three decades, I have seen my share of profit over product. Minimums are unacceptable in my view. More on that in subsequent writings.

Until next time, take care of yourselves and each other.
